Southeastern Connecticut Women’s Network:
A Brief History & Introduction (Part 2)
In its 30+ years, the Network has grown and evolved. With
approximately 180 members, it meets the third Wednesday of every month
for networking, lunch, and to hear a guest speaker.
But even more than that, the Network has become a force for good
throughout Southeastern Connecticut and beyond. Over the years the
Network and its members (in no particular order):
have been active participants in the Celebrity Luncheons sponsored by the Leukemia Society.
established three, annual $1,000 scholarships for women
continuing their educations at Three Rivers Community College, UCONN
Avery Point and Eastern Connecticut State University.
made substantial contributions of to the United Way Labor Division Community Center Food Locker Program.
created four Network-sponsored Mastermind Groups providing
members additional networking opportunities and intimate group support
to accomplishing professional objectives and wealth building strategies.
adopted the Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut.
voted to admit men as a welcome addition to its goals and objectives.
sit on the Consortium for Women's Career Development and Training and provide career awareness to regional students.
entered into an Endowment Fund Agreement with The Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut.
created the Her-Story DVD, an important Network legacy that documents the Network’s founding and its history through June 2007.
Conducted a variety of special events, including career
conferences, workshops, and a business showcase to help support women in
business.
Developed fundraising events including a fashion show, dinner theater and an ongoing Thanksgiving pie sale.
The Network’s primary activity, however, remains the monthly
luncheon meetings during which members and guests take the opportunity
to acquaint themselves with other professionals in an information and
congenial atmosphere. This regular occasion offers an effective way for
members to assist one another in networking for professional and
personal gain and enrichment.
