Tatyana's War, Escape and Survival from the Eastern Front in WW II — Helen Charov, Author

    •      Be sure to join Us Wednesday, April 15 at 11:30 am for our monthly luncheon at Little Neck Restaurant & Events at Great Neck Country Club, $25 for member pre-registrations, $30 for non-member pre-registrations, and $35 for late registrations and walk-ins includes gratuity and tax. Please note price change. Pre-registration is encouraged.
Learn about the survival and persistence of a woman/mother during World War II.
When Nazi troops invaded her Donetsk, Ukraine home in 1941, Helen's mother, Tatyana Artemyeff, a 25-year-old teacher, was left on her own to save her two children and mother when her conscripted husband's unit retreated from the city. Luckily, Tatyana spoke German and was determined to find a way to survive the brutal occupation and keep her family from dying of starvation or execution. Decades later, Helen found her mother's diaries in a Connecticut attic, and discovered a unique account of Tatyana's life as a teacher in the Stalinist Soviet Union, the 1941 Nazi invasion of Donetsk, her survival under Nazi occupation, and her harrowing escape to the West. This book switches seamlessly between Tatyana's account of life and death and Helen's story (Tatyana's American-born daughter).
Many readers of Helen's book, Tatyana's War, have commented that they learned a lot about an unknown aspect of World War II (the Eastern Front) and how the book inspired them with the story of a courageous woman during war. She will also speak about how to approach getting your first book finished, handled by an agent, and published.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, of émigré parents who came to the U.S. as displaced persons after World War II, Helen Charov grew up in Sea Cliff, a village on Long Island's north shore. After graduating from New York University, she traveled extensively throughout the USSR with a U.S. government exhibit. Ending her career of entrepreneurship and nonprofit management, she retired to write her first book. She lives in Moodus, Connecticut.

Network@Night (N@N) –  Your Closet is Your Identity with Donna Capoverde of Behind the Style Grid, LLC.

We'll be having a super time... Thursday, April 23, 2026, 6:00 pm  at our Network@Night with Donna Capoverde at 7 Holdridge Court, Mystic, CT. Register and pay online, $10 per person, or cash at the door.
Did you know that your closet is so much more than a storage space?  Your closet holds your identity, your memories, and your confidence!
As a Personal Stylist for 10+ years, I have learned to love my closet and feel amazing every day by following a few essential "rules" when building my wardrobe.

Join me for the most fun you will ever have cleaning out your closet!
The clothes we choose every day tell a story about who we are to the world and can have a major impact on our emotions and mood.  What we wear speaks for us when we enter a room. And here’s the challenge: the fashion industry has worked to deeply ingrain the belief that the best and fastest way to achieve your own style aspirations is to simply keep buying more stuff.

The result: A closet full of clothes and nothing to wear every day.

As a Personal Stylist, I work with women to first understand their needs and second to build a relationship with someone they can trust.  What you get in return is a wardrobe that totally works for you – enhances your personal style, sometimes helping you discover for the first time, how to feel amazing in your own skin.
I help women build a wardrobe that works for the life they live every day.  I will give you another perspective on who you are and how you present yourself.  I teach women about color, texture, silhouette, and fabric.  To have fewer clothes but more outfits.  To understand the confidence and power that comes with feeling good about who you see in the mirror.
During the next hour or so, we are going to learn how to bring the joy back into dressing every day, starting with the dreaded work of cleaning out that closet…and hopefully have some laughs along the way.
